INITIATIVE: Innovative Income Tools and Integrated Approaches To Improve Villagers’ Employment

EcoHimal Society for Cooperation Alps – Himalayas

EcoHimal, the Society for Cooperation Alps – Himalayas, is registered as a non-profit organisation in Austria and since 1992 has implemented projects and programs for development cooperation in Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In December 2015, EcoHimal started a project for the improvement of income-creating opportunities in Kyrgyzstan which was co-financed by the European Union.

For EcoHimal any cooperation with our partner countries is based on the commitment for sustainable development. All projects have ecological, economical, social and cultural objectives which are implemented together with the local population in regional development projects.

The fight against poverty and the protection of bio-diversity in order to guarantee the long-term sensible co-existence of humans and nature – these are the major tasks of any development cooperation. This applies especially to the world's highest mountains – the Himalayas, the Tian Shan and also the Alps.  More than 100 million people live in the valleys and terraces in the shadow of the world's high-altitude mountains. To preserve these endangered ecosystems and at the same time to manage them carefully present great challenges.

To create better conditions of living in the long run for the inhabitants of the high mountains of Asia, to support them to take the development of their regions into their own hands – that is EcoHimal's mission.

Financing
Our projects and programs are financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation, the European Union, the Province and City of Salzburg, partner organisations, sponsors as well as private donations.
